Which one is the best camera for an amateur mom like me?Nikon D80, Nikon D40, Nikon D40X? Thanks in advance:)?
I've posted a question about lenses earlier. I'm a mom who loves taking pictures of my toddler.
Those are all great cameras. Although all of them are great the D80 might have a little more manual features to it. If you are coming from a point a shoot camera it is probably wise to get the D40 since it is smaller and cheaper than the D80. it really all depends on the person shooting. I also recommend you going to the store and try each of them out. I myself got the D80 and love it. No problems to report so far just praises. If you are considering the D40x you might want to take a look at the D60 because it is supposed to be an upgrage from the D40x but it really isn't as much.
I'm a 17 year old amateur filmmaker. My mom wants me to do a CSPAN contest. Documentaries aren't my thing.
The contest is about making a documentary about a current political issue. I'm interested in animal rights and environmental issues but documentaries are not my area. I wouldn't to know where to begin. I made some movies with my friends where we remade scenes from our favorite movies. I narrated behind the scenes footage. My mom says that I was really good and that and that's all I would need to do for the contest. She doesn't understand that editing and many other aspects are involved to. I like to do creative M. Night Shymallan-type camera angles. I WANT TO BE BEHIND THE CAMREA, NOT IN FRONT OF IT. How do I explain this to my mom?

We are REALLY close but she doesn't understand that there is a difference between documentaries and what I am good at. Both my grandma and mom saw the contest commercial and thought of me. I don't want to disappoint them. If my mom really wants me to do this then I will but I just want her to understand.
Here's the website www.studentcam.org/About.html
If you don't want to be in front of the camera then ask a friend to be and you can direct like you want to.
How should i convince my mom to allow me to train to fight in mma?
I am 16 years old and iv had 4 amateur boxing matches and each one i had has taken a hell of a lot of convincing from my mom to allow me to fight. The thing is i do not yet know any sort of ground game and i do wish to do so, but the thing is, my mom does not want me to do any sort of mma training or fighting obviously. Is there anything anyone can recommend i tell her because she gets very worried when i tell her i want to train for this. I have snuck 1 of the amateur boxing matches by her. But she found out cuz there was a picture of me punching a guy in the face in the newspaper. Any thoughts?
Just take martial arts, learn BJJ, kickboxing, just tell your mom you want to learn them for self defensem once you are18 starting training harder in MMA and she cannot stop you, no mom will let their son do MMA if they are against it, you will never convince her to let you but she may let you learn different martial arts, it takes years of training so just tsrating training now and when you are old enough you can begin to seriously get into the sport.
What should I cook as welcome home dinner for my mom?
My mom and my sister are coming back home from being overseas for 6 weeks and I think it would mean a lot to her if I made something for when they come back. It'll be dinner since it's an evening flight. Nothing extremely extravagant because I'm so amateur, but what are some good recipe ideas? They're not picky so anything can be included but I'd prefer if it didn't include seafood XD

Thank you!
homemade mac and cheese is always good melt cheese with a cup of milk and 3 T butter cook mac stir together put in a baking dish and crumble cracker crumbs or bread crumbs on the top.

Make a nice desert individual truffles look fancy but are easy chunks of cake whipped cream pudding and sometimes fruit layers in a dish or tall glass

good luck
Is it harder to me a top tier mma fighter or a stay at home mom?
Some women think it's harder to be a stay at home mom so I'm just looking for some true insight because I don't wanna be an ***. And by top tier I mean THE TOP TIER UFC, pride (thought bought by ufc), you get the idea. Not casual training or amateur fighting.
The MMA fighter has a much tougher job.
Your basically training constantly, in that you have to sleep properly and eat properly. Some fighters train 16 hours in the gym a day. It's hard to believe, but it's true. Your getting your *** kicked constantly, your always beat up and injured from training. A Top tier MMA fighter, if he's the best of the best and a belt holder (GSP, Lesnar, Silva etc) only has to fight 3 times up the year, but still they generally get hurt so bad that a doctor has to force to spend a certain amount of time just recovering, and by law, they have too. Then comes the fame aspect, tv, radio shows, meet and greet, most fighter travel around the world doing seminars with guys and up-and-comers. UFC fighters, unless your a champ, don't even make that much money, there are UFC fighters that live in my town that drive Civics and rent. I'm an 18 year old guy and i'm even better off then they are right now, and they're in the show.

My mom's a stay at home mom, it's hard but not MMA fighter hard. Even if your a single mother working two jobs trying to feed 3 guyren, then maybe it's harder, but as for a stay at home mom? Nah.
How safe is amateur boxing?
i want to start up amateur boxing but my mom won't let me because she thinks it's too dangerous. actually how safe is it and what can i tell her to convince her to let me do it?
1. Amateur boxing is a great, exciting sport.

2. Mom always speaks with your best interest at heart.

You will get two different answers on your safety question.

Many involved with the sport will tell you it is safe. Of course, they are basing this on their own belief rather than science.

Medical associations and neurologists take a different position. Many warn that the brain does not take well to being whacked, even when amateur headgear supposedly softens the blow. (Footnote below).

The Swedish study is quite recent, and comes to the same conclusion as many previous studies. (Other footnotes).

The world boxing association counters by stating that doctors should mind their own business since boxers should have the democratic right to engage in a hazardous sport. While there is merit in this assertion, it does fail to consider whether boxers are aware of the risks, and also of the consequences to themselves and others of even mild brain damage. "There is probably no safe dose of blows to the head," says Vivienne Nathanson, head of science and ethics at the British Medical Association, which is campaigning for a total ban on boxing.

So, as a prospective boxer, do your own research.

One of my friends, who boxed only amateur, recently told me that he is convinced that he has suffered some minor neurological effects from his years in the ring despite full headgear. He still loves the sport, and we talk boxing whenever we get together. Go to any boxing gym, and love of pugilism will dominate any concern for neurons.

Now, if you ask Mom about this, I am guessing she might say that boxing gyms are great places to learn how to box, but lousy places to learn about neurology,

And you will also know that doctors and research scientists can teach you about health risks, but that might not do your boxing career much good.

(I threw in the last quote below from a doctor who supports boxing, just to really confuse you).

Good luck, and say hi to Mom. (And no, she won't buy the last doctor's comments. She'll just say "what do you expect... he is a ring doctor".)
What are the precautions in amateur boxing?
I would like to sign up for boxing lessons, but my mom's afraid that my brain's going to get all jarred up and that I'll have memory problems and stuff. Could anybody tell me what the precautions are?
Stick and move!! Jab, jab! On a serious note, maybe you weren't looking for precautions like wear a helmet or don't get hit in the head, but instead for warnings or advice from other boxers. I'd say experiences are subject to great variations. Perhaps make a compromise and tell her you'd like to try it out for X amount of time to see if you have the reflexes for it. If you're too slow, you will take a lot of blows, potentially to the head, and maybe you weren't cut out for it and will agree to give up and avoid becoming a cabbage head.
How do i start an amateur boxing career?
how do i start a boxing career....i cant go join a club now because my mom said it bout to be winter again
It would be hard to start an amateur boxing career without having any training in boxing. I would start getting your cardio really, really good while you wait to join a gym or club. Run, jump rope, and shadow box a LOT. Start toning your body up and eat healthy. You'll be a huge step ahead of the game if you're in great shape when you start! Good luck.
Are there any sites for amateur writers?
I am writing a novel for my mom, and was wondering if there is any way I can get help with it, critiquing and giving me ideas when I get writers block! Thanks everyone.
i'm a writer too and the only place i've found for good critique and community online is www.deviantart.com which is quite good, you get your own space. mine is www.joseph-j-wood.deviantart.com

the problem with it is that it isnt exclusively literature, its open to all art forms. also, it might be difficult to find someone who wants to read the whole thing. i've written short stories and am writing my first novel, but the only work i've put up on the site has been my prose and poetry.

if you find anything else can i ask if you could let me know too? or send me your email adress and we can share ideas and keep in touch. i don't know nearly as many artists as i'd like to.
How can I work up the courage to sing my mom a song I wrote?
She knows I play guitar and am a good singer, but I don't think she knows I'm an amateur songwriter. I wrote a song the other night that I would be cool with showing people, but I grew up with older sisters who put down everything I do, and I'm really worried my mom won't be supportive, or won't like it. Any advice? if you want to know what the song sounds like here's a link
www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RRxjWNBs…
just sing/play it really loud in your bedroom and see if she hears you and notices how good you are?
